Overcoming blocks
Over the past few months, I’ve been stepping out of my comfort zone, and once the initial scary steps are taken, courage seems to set in and the soaring begins. It’s amazing the stories we seem to create in our own heads that hold us back from being our most authentic selves.
How do we overcome these blocks which keep us from trying new things, creating, connecting, healing, and mainly, just really living fully?
My own personal story, throughout my life, has been the fear of speaking in front of groups of people. I almost failed debate class in high school because I refused to stand up and share among my classmates. And if called on by anyone to answer a question in a group setting, game over, not your person. Over the years, I kindly rejected any invitations to be a guest speaker or panel participant because I feared the moment of all eyes on me. All of these missed moments didn’t help me grow, but instead, kept me hiding from my purpose. If others believed enough in me to invite me to share, why didn’t I believe in myself? Being 1:1 with people or in small intimate gatherings has never been a problem, I actually crave the joy of sharing.
So I decided enough is enough, and Femme Société bloomed. Last week was our first gathering, and I contemplated wearing my turtleneck to hide any anxiety red splotches and also wanted to cancel several times before start time, but I didn’t. Instead, I showed up, prepared and full of excitement. And you know what? IT WAS AMAZING! I’m hooked. I jumped and am going to keep soaring.
Fear of failure keeps us cozy in our comfort zones, yet what is living if we don’t take the chances.Transform the fear into excitement.
Reframe the stories in our heads with action shifting thoughts:
I want to grow.
I am okay with feeling uncomfortable.
I will not worry about what others think.
Nothing makes you feel more inspired than stepping outside of the usual and doing something you don’t ordinarily do.
Excitement and adventure typically are not found in your comfort zone - doing the same thing the same way, because it’s easy results in missed opportunities to truly live out your purpose.
Is there something you have been wishing to do for a while and just have not had the courage to leap? We have all been there. And I’m here, to listen and support - just reach out and share because knowing others believe in you always lifts us higher. You got this.
